avast! antivirus is now reporting steam.dll and steamUI.dll as virus-infected. It stuffs them in the "virus locker," and then steam re-updates itself to replace the missing .dlls. Thus begins an infinite loop. Telling avast! to ignore the files doesn't help.
Dammit, just when I thought I finally found a decent antivirus.

I stay far away from avast! because it was screwing up my comp a while back. Because I'm on Windows, I use Microsoft Security Essentials, which is a free to download and includes antivirus.

Yeah, I was using the free MS stuff and avast at the same time; dogmeat you reccomended them to me eons ago. I can't remember why I dropped the MS stuff and went with only avast when I got the current laptop.
Avast seems to not be flagging steam anymore for now at least.

Steam also said when in game you can disable your virus protection as its not needed in game. But I don't do that. Something to try if you think it will help.
